Great boots are hard to come by. That’s why I’ve been putting off my winter boot purchase until now. When I think of the perfect boot I think sleek, warm, snug, and practical. I mean come on, how many times have we seen great looking boots take a spill on a busy street? Trust me: it’s not a good look.
Recently I became enamoured by the Sorel brand, and it’s myriad of boot offerings. I had spotted them on plenty a celebrity, and decided to check them out to see what the likes of Kate Hudson, Brad Pitt, and Kristen Bell were all excited about.
I felt quite patriotic when I found out that these boots were first engineered in 1952 by a Canadian! Yes, a Canadian! Their designs speak volumes to the Canadian winter culture as they are durable, waterproof, and can withstand temperatures of up to -100° below zero. Not to mention, they are quite the fashion statement.
I ended up selecting the Sorel Hoonah boot. This boot is a new addition to the Sorel line-up and adds a fresh new perspective to the brand. It’s all about being functional while looking good with these boots, as they are equipped to keep my toes nice and warm, all the while being sophisticated. They have a very equestrian-like feel to them, and although I’ve never ridden a horse, I can always pretend like I have, right?
At $180 these boots are a steal. They are built to last, and will keep you happy for many winters to come. They fit a little large, so be sure to order a half size up to a full size smaller than you normally would. And if you’re still not sure, the Sorel website has a great size chart to help you out.

La Roux is one of my favourite new artists. There is something about her music that is extremely nostalgic, harkening back to the day of great 80’s techno-pop.
This is music you can dance to, bob your head to, write to, wash a car to…I think you get the idea.
Check out her single “In for the Kill” featured below (music video can be found on Youtube). Once you’re hooked, listen to “Bulletproof”. There’s no denying it. If you are an 80’s baby, prepare to be thrilled.
La Roux will be performing at the Guvernment in Toronto on October 23.

If the title of this post doesn’t already make you jump up and down in excitement, then there is definitely something missing in your life.
Whenever I meet someone and we start discussing good television, I always without hesitation bring up Skins, a British show that chronicles the lives of high school kids growing up in a small city called Bristol in South-West England.

When you catch a Jonas Brothers fan on a mission, politely step out of their way. They mean business. Like loyal Vijaya for VJ supporter, Steph, who has been on the lookout for the boys for the better part of a month.
You might remember Steph from my official video entry for the MuchMusic VJ Search. When asked what it would take for her to let me bud in line, she responded “2 frappucinos, and a Joe Jonas”. EPIC.
Steph has gotten the art of finding the brothers Jonai down to a science. To date, she has gone to baseball games featuring the boys favourite teams in anticipation of seeing them, which she did. She also has a contact in LA who once texted the boys while in their hotel room to come outside and wave. And, she also knows the check in and checkout dates for the boys at any given hotel they are staying at. That’s what I call hardcore.
Well, Steph’s dreams came true this Friday when she was staking them out at an undisclosed location. Their car passed by around 4 am, and she noted that the brothers were conscious of how long she had been waiting out there to see them.
She says that the brothers were more than gracious, initiating conversation, and walking up to the group. What gentlemen. Although they had been on set for the better part of 11 hours, they took time to pose for photographs, signed autographs, and engaged in conversation with everyone.
How can you not love the Jonas Brothers after reading that story? They are humble, down to earth guys who will take the extra time out of their day to make fans happy: a direct correlation how successful they are in their careers.
A special thank you to Steph who was fabulous enough to share her story with me. You rock!

For as long as I can remember, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been one of my favourite movies of all time. It allows kids of all ages to live out their wildest dreams and imagine all the possibilities of what would happen while visiting a chocolate factory.
Remember that infamous golden ticket? After watching the movie, I would subsequently open chocolate bars anticipating something similar. Yes, I was a kid with a wild imagination.
What if I told you that there is one golden ticket hidden today? Not hidden in a chocolate bar, but in one of Justin Bieber’s new albums come the November 17 release date.
The person who finds the golden ticket will be awarded a private concert with Justin in their own backyard.

If you are a Paramore fan, then you are in for a treat! They are going to be stopping by MuchMusic this Wednesday October 14 for MOD, so make sure you try to get in on the action by coming down.
Also, post Much on Demand, they will be hosting a live chat. So start arming yourself with questions, and kitschy one liners that will help catch their attention. This is your chance to interact with the band one on one, so get ready for it!

I’ve been listening to Imogen Heap’s new album, Ellipse, a lot recently. I was taken with Imogen several years ago with her then release of the now infamous Hide and Seek. For fans of The O.C., this was the song played in the closing scenes of the season 2 finale, as well as at Caleb Nichol’s funeral.
In one word, Ellipse is magical. It’s the Imogen we know and love, but taken to a different place. The record is calming, reflective, and emotional. Imogen’s lyrics are original and refreshing, as is her sound. I love that she is authentically herself.
Here’s the first single of the album. One listen and you’ll know exactly what I mean. Check out First Train Home.
